Apicoectomy: Saving the Tooth

The goal of every root canal treatment is to keep a diseased tooth functional. If the nerve inside the tooth becomes inflamed, a root canal treatment can treat the infection and often preserve the tooth permanently.

If inflammation persists despite root canal treatment, an apicoectomy offers a further option for saving the tooth: we remove the infected root tip and the surrounding, inflamed tissue in an outpatient procedure under local anaesthetic - unlike with classic root canal treatment, we reach the root tip surgically through the jawbone.
